Here at Belle’s Events I champion the unconventional and have absolutely no problem pushing the boundaries, so when this Hunger Games/Grimm’s Fairytale styled shoot, with more than a hint of the futuristic arrived in my inbox I think I punched the air just a little bit!
The masterminds behind the styled shoot are Sussex based florist, Brandon Anthony and photographer, Toni Heath. Both come from creative backgrounds, Brandon’s in fashion and the cuttings rooms of Vivienne Westwood and Toni’s in merchandising at Laura Ashley. On the day of the shoot they were very ably assisted by Toni Todd, Hair and Make Up Artist and Opulence & Grace Bridal.
In an industry where focus is still very much placed on the traditional (although I’m pleased to report, that focus has started to shift over the last few years!) Brandon & Toni wanted to work on a shoot that not only challenged the wedding industry norms but also themselves. Brandon wanted the shoot to feature contemporary and unusual flowers and foliage like Bird of Paradise, Craspedia, wheat and woven palm leaves (check out the cape!) and add a modern twist to wedding flower staples like buttonholes and flower crowns by reimagining their purpose. Toni wanted to push her creativity, working with shape and symmetry, to test new compositions for wedding photography and to put the ‘groom’ at the forefront.
The vision was to amalgamate the avant-garde, whilst staying true to an underlying bridal theme, with the ‘love story’ between the young couple at it’s heart. As Toni explains, “the relationship between the male and female is not necessarily a romantic one but the connection between the two is key.”
We may well be a while away yet from seeing our couple of the future making their way down the aisle but, in the same way as we draw inspiration from the catwalk and use a designer’s vision to move an idea forward in a relevant way, so we can use elements from this shoot to flip the traditional on it’s head and begin to knock mass conformity within the wedding industry on it’s head 🙂 So come on ladies and gents – what are you waiting for?!
Thank you so much to Brandon & Toni for sharing their amazing work!
